Trees are crucial for your landscape, and taking proper care of them can be challenging if you do not know the proper techniques, but we will try to give you some guidelines that will make it a little easier for you.
The first thing to consider is the kind of tree that you select for your yard or landscape. There are numerous types to select from and many of them require special treatment, watering schedules, chemicals and levels of sunlight to prevent damage to the tree as well as costly and unnecessary maintenance that could have been prevented from the outset. Always perform a website search for the particular tree you wish to plant and follow any label instructions.

Second, you need to understand that a lot of trees require some form of pruning. Proper pruning technique need to be learned otherwise you will damage the tree. You not only should learn how to prune, but also when, and what tools are right for the job. If you already have existing trees on your property that have never been pruned you must do some research on proper pruning techniques in order to get the most out of your trees.
Third, your watering schedule is equally crucial. Watering too much or too little is obviously going to cause problems, but did you also know that there is a right time and wrong time to water your trees? A lot of people assume that a tree is best suited to any natural watering cycle (after all, unkempt trees are watered by rain), but if you're landscaping this is the wrong technique. Specialized trees require specialized watering schedules. A lot of young trees must be watered late in the evening or very early morning when it is still dark. Make certain that you water slowly for a gradual soaking, and that you do it only two or three times per week. Make certain your tree has received about three inches of water per week.
Fourth is mulching. Mulch makes trees on your landscape more visually appealing, but it is actually essential for keeping out weeds, and controlling root and soil temperature. Mulching also helps to shield your tree from external damage from yard equipment. Be sure to place it at a depth of about four inches in a mound around your tree's base. You can use wood chips or bark. Maintain it regularly and if you observe any weeds pull them out immediately.
Fifth, do not slip up about fertilizing your trees. Lots of people assume that all plants need fertilizer from the time they are put into the ground, but this is not true. Trees once planted must not be fertilized until about six months after planting. You must apply it only once per year, in the autumn, about 2 to 3 feet out from the trunk. Use the exterior limbs as a guide.
If you take proper care of your trees your landscape will benefit, the earth will benefit, and you and your descendants will be able to take pleasure in the tree for many decades.
